Increase in Maldives Holiday Bookings

According to the British high-end package holiday company, Kuoni, reservations to luxury destinations including the Maldives, Thailand and Malaysia are on the increase.  This is seen as an indication that the worst part of the recession could be over, at least for the travel market.

In recent weeks, booking to Malaysia, the Maldives and Thailand all increased and there have also been signs of improvement in destinations like Mauritius.

Kuoni is a specialist travel company, offering exclusive holidays and the Maldives is a very important destination in their portfolio, since the British are among the most frequent travellers to the Maldives.  While they had seen declines in the first two quarters of 2009, they are now seeing an increase in customers buying last-minute deals.  Their business is considered to have benefited from the terrible weather in the UK over the summer of 2009.  The largest growth area is in 5-star holidays.
