Thanks to growing sales in the Maldives for the Dubai-based airline Emirates, the island country has been recognised for their “outstanding performance”. The award was presented at a regional Emirates conference.
The Emirates regional manager who is in charge of the Maldives, Darrell Soertsz, accepted the award from Emirates Divisional VP Richard Vaugham. He was joined by the Emirates manager of the Maldives and Sri Lanka, Chandana de Silva. Mr de Silva said that the award was particularly special in light of the global economic turndown and its effect on the airline industry. He congratulated the Emirates team in the Maldives.
Revenue targets for Emirates Airline in the Maldives were exceeded by almost 30% in the 2008-09 period, in contrast to most targets being missed throughout the rest of the airline industry, demonstrating that the Maldives is a particularly interesting destination, not really fazed by the worldwide recession.
Dubai-based Emirates offers 14 flights a week from Dubai to Male, and three flights a week from Male to Singapore. From these locations, they offer a whole range of connections all over the world.
